March 18, 2008 - THE FLOOD
A horrible flood has struck the central United States. Record rainfall amounts have fallen over portions of Southern Missouri and Southern Illinois. Cape Girardeau, Missouri has received between 11-13" of rain. Hundreds of homes have been damaged by the rising waters.
Here are some maps showing the tremendous rainfall totals...keep in mind most of this fell in a 24 hour period. Just incredible.

I recorded close to four inches of rain here in Graves County, KY. Flooding swept away a bridge - 2 miles west of Mayfield. One 17 year old boy was injured when he drove his vehicle into the washed out culvert.
I drove to Massac County, Illinois and took these photographs. This area received between 6-9 inches of rain. The area photographed was Big Bay.

Particularly hard hit was Vienna, Illinois. Local residents reported some of the worst flooding ever. A railroad bridge was swept away derailing a train. Nine people were injured. Every business in Vienna reported flood damage. Other areas that were hard hit included Poplar Bluff - Missouri, Harrisburg - Illinois, St Louis - Missouri, Cape Girardeau - Missouri, Karnak - Illinois, and many many other communities.
